Dark Spot At The Top Of Eardrum, No Pain. Problem?

My boyfriend, who is not in the medical field, looked in my ears tonight with an otoscope and while my left eardrum sounded like it looks normal, mostly white, my right eardrum looks bright orange. The color could be coming from behind it he thought. I asked more to be sure it wasn't wax and he said it was the eardrum itself. Also there was a small dark spot up at the top of the eardrum that looked like a hole. I do have some pain but have had ear infections before and this definitely isn't that kind of extreme pain. Any ideas what this is?

hi, you are having perforated tympanic membrane, which is caused due to various reasons, like exposure to loud sound, exposure to increased or decreased pressure and old history of CSOM, which you had it in the past. you can see the ENT surgeon for that, you may be adviced to undergo tympanoplasty if there is a need. but the black spot/hole in the tympanic membrane should be confirmed by the ENT surgeon. all the best.
