Dark Colored Bowel Movement After Drinking Red Wine. Is This Because Of Wine Or Internal Bleeding?

I have always felt that my bowel movement isn't completely right. Last night I had 5 cups of red wine. And this morning I had runny, dark feces. I've never found myself having that before. Is it because of the wine? Or because of internal bleeding?

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

If the stool is black like a tar, it can be bleeding from stomach indeed. However if it is only dark (not black), bleeding is rather not possible.
Red wine can trigger stomach issue (like peptic ulcer). You should have also upper middle abdominal pain, some nausea.
To make sure you are not bleeding, please check your heart rate and blood pressure. Low blood pressure and increased heart rate (more than 100) can indicate bleeding. In such case, or in case of black stool, emergency gastroscopy is necessary.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
