Cure For Dry, Itchy, Painful Eyes With White Patches On Conjunctiva?

For the past three weeks I had red eyes and went to see the specialist and was told I had corneal deposits on the right eye greater than the left eye, was put on Gutt Maxitrol eye drops and still on it. Then a second problem arises and today I went to the eye specialist again and was told I have very dry eye. Contact lens wearer for more than 30 years and now was told not to wear for the time being. My eyes are now very dry, itching feeling, painful at time and have a scalding feeling. Then when I got back from the doctors I discovered on the white area (conjunctiva) I had the white or yellowish patches on it and went to the see the optometrist and he said it is pterygium. Is there a cure for it? Currently I am on Maxitrol eye drop twice per day and then Systane Ultra UD Lubricant eye drop. Is there a cause of concern for the pterygium? I am due to visit the specialist again in 10 days time but cut short to visit again in two days time. Do you think I should visit again in two days time or wait till 10 days time? The eye lubricant have to apply every hour. Thank you.

Hello
It seems from the history that you are having dry eye with ptrygium.
Use of lubricating eye drops is sufficient for treatment of dry eyes. If it is not responding to lubricating eye drops other modes of treatment like use of cyclosporine or lacrimal plugs can be considered.
Pterygium does not always require treatment, treatment is by surgery if it is progressive and encroaching the cornea.

Thank you
