Cramps. Been On Contraceptive Shots For A Couple Of Years. Is This Normal?

I have a couple questions. First, I've been on the depo shot for a couple years now, on and off, but I've noticed when it gets towards the end of the three month mark I start to spot and cramp really bad. Also, usually after getting the next shot it goes away. Well I had my last shot on September 10th and about a week after I stopped cramping and spotting again, but just a couple days ago I started once more. And the cramps are terrible. Is all this normal?
