Could Yellow Finger Nails And Weakness Indicate Iron Deficiency?

I use vomit at once a week or more usually at night, I also have yellow finger nails, and often feel like I'm about to faint. then i started taking ion tablets after reading something about lack of ion leading to yellow fingers, now both symptoms have gone away. Does this mean i no longer need to seek medical help?

Hello, if your symptoms have gone away I would not rush to the doctor. I would continue the iron at current dosage for 3 months. You do not want to take repletion level of iron after you are repleted. Whatever you get in your diet after that should be enough since I am going to ask you to include high iron foods (red meat, molasses, spinach). If you combine the iron containing food with a vitamin C containing food, absorption will be greater. I will not discuss dosage as you should be seeing a doctor, having a cbc and ferritin level done, and a stool blood test. Anemia can be caused by protein deficiency, copper deficiency, iron, B12, folate. I really would like the doctor to evaluate this, this is up to you and if you can financially afford it. I have given you general recommendations since you are already treating this as an iron problem. The blood work and diagnosis should come from your doctor and by the way, if you go in for lab work ask for a fasting blood sugar as well.
Thank you for coming to HCM. I hope the riddle is solved and you go on to a long and healthy life. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
