Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could The Bleeding In Nose Be Due To Dexamethasone?
I have had 6 nose bleeds in a 24 hour period. They are really heavy for about three minutes then they stop. I do not get nose bleeds often. I did take dexamethasone two nights ago for some lab work I had done yesterday morning. Could this be a side effect and if so, when can I expect the symptoms to go away?
Welcome to HCM and thank you for your query. I understand your concern. It is known that Dexamethasone rarely produces bleeding from the nose. This is usually as a result of increase in blood pressure documented by Dexamethasone especially if you were on a high dose as in Dexamethasone suppression test. Have your blood pressure checked and if it is high use a diuretic to pass out the salt and fluid retained due to dexamethasone. If there is racing of the heart a beta blocker may be required for a few days. This ought to disappear in a few days. If it persists or the bleeding is excessive/ uncontrolled, you should see an ENT doctor. Take care. Dr Noble Zachariah
