Could Swollen And Painful Foot Post An Injury Indicate Broken Bone?

I dropped a heavy piece of lumber on the top of my foot. It is quite swollen and painful 24 hrs later. I can still move all my toes, but cannot put weight on it. Is it broken? How can I tell, and is it likely to need attention or will it heal if kept still and elevated?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Well, it is very difficult to say weather bone is broken or not by history alone. Sometimes it might be difficult by physical examination as well.
You can diagnose it based on X-ray findings. Take X-ray of legs and show it to an Orthopedician. Then it will be managed accordingly.
Hope the information provided is helpful.
