Could Reduction In The Metoprolol Dosage Be The Cause For Worsening Heart Palpitations ?

I am having a lot of heart palpitations ever since I reduced my metoprol from 200 mg twice daily to 50 mg twice daily to 25 mg twice daily. Could this be the reason that my heart palps are getting worse. 6 months ago I was having bad palps and had a ekg and my readings were completey the opposite it looked like somebody turned my readings upside down/ I spent 4 days in hospital and had a dozens more of ekg's, Echocardiogram, ultra sound on my heart I even had a angiogram done to check for blockages and it showed none, cats scan showed nothing the tests were all normal except for high blood pressure, normal bp's at home docs office always high. Also had 24 hour bp monitor it was normal which is why my meds are being lowered, Wore heart holter moniter and thats what led me to hospital..........the palps make my chest so sore......so whats happening I am female 49 yrs old and also lost 30 lbs am trying to lose more my current weight is 195 lbs.

Hi and thanks for the query,
it is a well documented side effect of Metoprolol, reason why close supervision is recommended when this drug is prescribed, especially to patients with a documented past history of heart disease. Evaluating for other causes if abnormal heart beating like thyroid disease and others could be considerations your treating cardiologist might have to consider. thanks and kind regards.
