Could Pregnancy Be The Cause For Elevated T3 And T4 Values?

Recently i had got my blood tested, report given below:

TSH (IRMA) 30.0

T4 5.0

A raised TSH is diagnostic of Primary Hypothroidism. It is acompananied by low T3, T4 values. Pituitary Hypothryrodism shows a low TSH with a low T3, T4 values. Sub clinical hypothyroidism may present with mildly raised TSH and normal T3,T4. Hyperthyroidism is diagnosed by a supressed TSH and a high T3,T4 Concomitant illness, drugs like amidorone, Lithium, idoide, phenobarbital and phenytoin may alter TSH values temporarily in absence of thryroid disorder. Normal pregnancy may have raised total T3,T4 due to rise in carrier proteins

My age is 40 (female).

Hi dear welcome to HCM....

I appreciate your good knowledge on thyroid .....
But I am here giving you full knowledge regarding your case ....

You are having high TSH level ....
If thyroid hormone t4 is high than we can think pituitary adenoma like condition .
But here no issue of it ....

Second see your t4 is 5 ...Normal range from 5 to 12 ug/ DL ...

But this is total t4 estimation ...
In pregnancy TBG level affected which is carrier protein and can lead false report on t4 .....
So I suggest you to estimate free t4 level estimation for correct value ...
Mostly it will come low and you are having primary hypothyroid ......
If its level normal than you have subclinical hypothyroid ....

After doc consultation levothyroxine started as we need to keep TSH level between 2 to 3......

Hope I have solved your concern...

If still advise needed endocrinologist can be consulted ...

Happy to help you further ....
