I m only 42. My last 4 periods have irregular. By that I mean I ve been having them every 3 weeks. Weight has never been an issue for me, lately I ve been putting on weight. Only 6/7 lbs, but it seems liks a lot more. I now have back fat and a big belly.is it possible I m in the beginning stages of menopause?

Hi,
It is true that you are experiencing a hormonal disturbance as you are seeing frequent cycles. The fact that you are putting on weight could be related to this or age-related. You can know for sure by having a hormonal assay and a trans-vaginal sonogram. The hormone status will help to know if you have entered the peri-menopause while the sonogram will help to rule out pelvic causes for the frequent cycles. Please try to maintain a healthy weight and do some regular exercise to cut down the fat; this is definitely going to help in future. Hope this helps.
