General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
I can understand your concern on your father's health.
1) If treatment consist of motility promoting medication which also increase intestinal movement then it might be cause for development of diarrhea.
2) Development of phlegmon with diarrhea in old age patient indicate liquid consistency of stool from inadequate defecation secondary to blockage of lower part of intestine (rectum) from hard stool. This can be confirmed by physical examination of rectum by general surgeon.
3) This can be prevented with stool softeners but before starting this medication, it is important to rule out other causes for diarrhea.
4) If diarrhea is associated with motility medication then it can be stopped for few days.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further question, I would be happy to help you!
