Could Gastroenteritis Been Brought On From The Accident?

I had a car accident at 50mph and suffered shock. 2 days later, I had to go to the hospital because my stomach was so painful. I was put on a drip and had morphine and was told it sounds like I got gastroenteritis. Could this have been brought on from the accident.?

Hi,

I noted the history car accident at 50 mph and suffered shock, had to go to the hospital for pain in abdomen, was put on a drip, started on morphine, was told this to be gastroenteritis, wants to know whether this could have been bought on by accident.

Since you have provided limited information, I would think of the following:

If there is severe pain that is related to the abdomen and also may be to the back or should, this can be though of due to accident. Also the Doctors will get the signs of severe tenderness, rebound tenderness, bloating, no intestinal sound or very harsh ones if there is blood irritating the inside or outside of bowels.

Also seen would be ecchymosis of the skin at the loins and back. This is very important sign of retro-peritoneal bleeding. The CT scan of the abdomen will show any internal injury, bleeding, collection, tear in sold viscera. In gastroenteritis: there is history of loose stool and vomiting, fever, pain in abdomen and may be associated with dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
