Could Difficulty In Breathing Be Due To Bruised Rib?

I fell off a bike a week ago and the handlebar went right into my ribs. Either I have a bruised or broken rib? It hurts in that area and I have shortness of breath. Every once in a while, I have an involuntary deep breath out of no where. What does that mean?
