Could Chest Pain While Standing During Pregnancy Indicate Pleurisy?

My daughter is having some chest pain rated at 6 on scale of 1 to 10. She is in her 1st trimester of pregnancy. Her pain is present when she stands or does activities of daily living and subsides when she is at rest and on her left lateral side. She says her pulse is not fast or irregular and she is not short of breath. She was told over the phone that she probably has pleurisy. Is this common with pregnancy? Is this a reasonable diagnosis for her complaint?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Yes, it does sound like pleurisy.
However, as you can very well understand, it is never possible to make a confirmed diagnosis over the phone.
She needs to consult her physician.
A complete physical evaluation - alongwith auscultation of the lung bases, and relevant tests, will help to achieve a diagnosis.
Any kind of chest pain should not be neglected during pregnancy.
Pleurisy in particularly , should be treated, lest it spread to the lung tissue, leading to pneumonitis.
Do not delay the consultation.
ANd no, pleurisy is not common during pregnancy.
Take care.
