Could Bloating, Heaviness And Weight Gain Be Due To Low Dosage Of Levothyroxine?

good day doctor. I am a male 45 years old, 90 kilograms weight. I had my Total Thyroidectomy last April 2010. Since then I have been taking 100mg Levothyroxine which was eventually increased to 150mg. My TSH level is 3.8 with reference to 4 to 5.5. I eat small portions only but i feel bloated and heavy. I was already 186 pounds last december but after 2 month of not going to the gym, i am 200 pounds now. Do I have to increase my dosage of levothyroxin? I feel my metabolism might have slowed down due to my inactivity.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

TSH is released from a part of the brain and normally would cause the release of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland. High levels of thyroid hormones would stop the brain from releasing too much TSH and therefore cause a decrease in TSH.
Decrease TSH usually means that the thyroid hormone levels are increased.

Your TSH is below the lower limit and your dose of levothyroxine may need to be adjusted (possibly down not up) but this should be done in consultation with your doctor first.

I hope this helps
