Could Ammonia Smelling Urine Be Linked With Thyroid Conditions?

My mother has Hashimoto s Thyroiditis, and I suffer from depression and tendonitis. Recently my pee has smelled of ammonia fairly strongly. My doctor tested my kidneys and did a full blood work recently though I had not told her about the ammonia smell. Is this something that could be related to a thyroid condition?

Hi thanks for contacting HCM ..

Normally urine having aromatic odour by volatile organic acid .....

But ammoniacal odour can occur if urinary tract infection is present esp by E.Coli...

So you have done proper work up for kidney infection...
Urine routine microscopic examination also done ....
If pus cells present treated with antibiotic .....

Drink lots of fluid .....
Fruit more ....
Excess spicy avoided....

Thyroid problem not affect urine odour...

Hope your concern solved...

Take care
