Could Adderall Increase TSH?

I am currently taking adderal xr 20 mg. I have several symptoms of hypothyroid, but my TSH levels are normal. I am going back at the end of July for further blood work. Should I not take the adderrall prior to the tests? Could adderall increase TSH?

Hi dear user
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism ,my advise is to repeat the thyroid tests:TSH,free T3 and free T4 and than to consult an endocrinologis for the right diagnose and treatement(if necessary).

Adderall is a combination of two stimulant drugs, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine and it is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
You should not use Adderall if you have an overactive thyroid. In your case you have symptoms of hypothyroidism so,is not a problem taking this drug.

several studies have demostrated that amphetamines transiently increase dopamine release and dopamine agonists can acutely suppress thyrotropin levels to lower-than-normal but detectable.

So,Adderal can affect the TSH level for this reason you must discuss with your doctor if you should stop taking this drug before the thyroid tests.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Thank you for using HCM.
Wish you good health.
