Hello, and i hope I can help you today.
The i-pill, or emergency
contraception, is very effective in preventing
pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of
unprotected intercourse.
However, many women experience withdrawal bleeding as a side effect of the i-pill, especially if your cycle is due. This is because the drop in the hormone
progesterone, which is contained in the i-pill, is the same hormone that drops in your body when you get your normal period. The bleeding after the i-pill is actually an indication that it worked correctly.
Because you already bled this cycle from the i-pill, which mimics a small period, your real cycle may be delayed or not come at all.
However, for reassurance, I suggest you perform a urine pregnancy test within 10-14 days after your episode of unprotected intercourse if your normal cycle does not occur by then. Over the counter
pregnancy tests will become positive within two weeks of conception.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
