Coughing After Quitting Gum Chewing. Diagnosed With COPD. What Do You Think?

I have been chewing gun containing aspartame since 2004. Recently I quit chewing the gum. I began coughing within one day. This continued for two weeks so I contacted my doctor, who did not seem concerned about the gum chewing. She sent me in for X-rays, and then diagnosed me with early symptoms of COPD. Curious, I went back on the gum and the cough became almost nonexistent. I am unsure if I have COPD or the entire problem is associated with the gum containing aspartame. What do you think?

Hello,

Artificial sweeteners have many health related problems.

But specifically causing COPD is not documented.

Chronic Bronchitis is one component of COPD which cause cough and it is episodic in nature.

This explains the cough occurring and disappearing.

So you need to on regular medication to prevent recurrent bronchitis.
