Continuous Belching, Swallowing Excess Air. History Of Liquid Going Down Wrong Pipe Followed By Cough And Change In Voice. Suggest
Hello doctor, about 3 hours ago I had accidently had some liquid go down the wrong pipe. I had some coughing and voice changes for ten minutes or so until my lungs cleared but ever since I stopped coughing I've been continously belching. I appear to be swallowing excess air. Do you know why this would happen? Is it something I should be concerned about or will it go away on its own? It seems to be getting better but im still curious.
I am so sorry to hear about what you experienced while consuming some liquids today. It is not a rare happening but more common in normal individuals when they try to talk or laugh during drinking. Please, try to avoid this next time.
Coughing is a normal reflex after such an accident and helps get rid of the liquids. All these symptoms are very non specific and should soon give way. There is no reason to be worried beyond the discomfort you get from all this.
I wish you well and feel free to ask us more questions if need be. Dr. Ditah, MD
