Cold, Blocked Nose, Sneezing, Phlegm In Throat, Chest And Back Pain. Cause Of Concern?

my son has classic cold symptoms, running, stuffy nose , drainage down his throat , sneezing , etc. He is complaining of chest and upper back pain . He keeps saying it is hard to breathe, but the doctors keep telling us they don t hear anything that would indicate anything more serious when they listen to his breathing.

hi there, these are classical symptoms of a common cold and usually of viral etiology so symptomatic treatment should see some relief in a few days. If the doctor's have examined his chest and breath sounds are clear then you just need to give him some cough sedatives, vix inhalations or steam inhalation and a cough drop to decrease coughing as due to the constant effort of coughing his chest muscles and diaphragm are painful and that is why he is complaining of chest pain. An antihistaminic will also help to relieve the nasal congestion and sneezing. Take care.

Hi thanks for your question.
Running stuffy nose, drainage dawn the throat and sneezing ,all are classical symptoms of common cold.common cold is usually viral in nature and gets settle dawn of its own..Common cold also produces inflammation of upper respiratory tract that pharynx, larynx and trachea which produces difficulty in brathing, but no sound on auscultation.
Myalgia that is aches and pain in body are part of common cold symptoms.
Give him steam inhalations that will help him in breathing plus symptomatic treatment for his symptoms that is nasal decongestants, antihistiminics and pain killers.
common cold takes a week time to get settled.
Hope this answers your question.
