My daughter aged 20 years has been suffering for the last 5 years (since 2008) from mouth ulcers. We have visited all specialist doctors (Dermatologist, ENT specialist, Dentist, Gynecologist, Rheumatologist, Allergy / Immunologist, GI specialist) for diagnostics and treatment. All blood work and biopsy tests including endoscopy and colonoscopy provided negative for Herpes, Yeast, Lupus. Celiac, Crohn's etc.). Ulcerations occur singles to multiple lesions with bleeding on lips from time to time, especially in the morning after night sleep. She took valtrex for about six months per Doctor's advice and prescription but did not help. The mouth ulcers used to heal in the very beginning (2008-2010) on steroid (prednisone) and oral anti-inflammatory mouth wash/gels treatment. The mouth ulcerns would be back as soon as the course is completed and after a week or two. Also some lumps appear and go away after weeks on fingers (index , middle, ring finger). Doctor's prescribed Multi vitamin, Iron , Vitamin B12 supplements and even tried diet with gluten free food, including changing tooth pastes. Food Allergy / Gluten tests were done but were negative. Doctors gave Dapzone and it worked for about 6 months in 2011 and again started with severe mouth ulcers. Doctors tried plaquinill starting March 2013 and though it reduced inflammation and breakouts for about 4months, but mouth ulcers kept appearing and It started increasing since June 2013. The frequent mouth ulcers breakout causing lots of pain, unable to have proper solid food and It has become unbearable and has affected her schooling / studies a lot. I have run out of ideas on next steps and which medicine specialty will be able to diagnose and treatment.. Appreciate advise on next steps,Medical specialty and alternate medicine to try if any.
