Chronic Migraine Sufferer, Extreme Pain. What Can Be Done?

Hi, I am a chronic migraine sufferer. Every 14 days or so, lasting 3 days each then the couplemofndays recovery. I have been down an experimental path for many years now (5). Nothing worked. The severity of pain is so bad that I cand even keep still, I roam around the course crying and screaming in pain, my partner sometimes has to lock all the doors in the house. I am happy to give you all the list of treatements I have tried. My question is this. One day I went to my doctor during an attack so she could see what I go through. And she prescribed a drug called endone. It worked! The pain was managed, I hated the drowsiness as I am active. But it worked. Turns out there is some big deal about this drug. Fine if people want to go around being sleepy all day like a zombie not me, but I have a quality of life issue here. So why would someone have reservations about prescribing it to me, a full time graphic designer, hard working mum who doesn t even drink or smoke? Please give me some insight as to how I can receive the pain management I deserve after all these years of trying everything you can imagine. Selena

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
First of all let me tell you that the causes of headache are many like migraine, tension headache, brain tumor/bleed/infections etc. From that data that you have posted, the most likely possibility that you have is migraine.

I feel that you should be on medications that can help modify the migraine per se. These drugs are amitryptiline, topiramate, valproate, propranolol. Thse medications do not have the side effects that you had. Other things that are important are to find out the precipitating factor and avoid it along with rest, relaxation and regular food, diet and life style.

Hope this helps
