Chronic Lumbar Pain, Stabbing In The Facet Area After Lying On The Back. MRI Showed Degenerative Changes, Disc Bulging. Treatment Advise?
70 yr old white male, 5 -9 , 175 lbs: No other basic health problems (good blood pressure) except that I ve been dealing with cronic Lumbar back pain for approx 10yrs now. After doing some lifting & then bent over - Pain 1st hit like an electric shock on right side of lumbar - maybe an inch or so out from spine - caused all muscles in buttox area to spasm & lock up - Used bed rest to slowly overcome & slowly after many weeks reach the get by stage - But, never completely pain free. Had MRI and saw Neuro Dr in 10 as pain increased to more stabbing type & couldn t sleep - Have always been a back sleeper - but, laying on back after a couple hrs caused stabbing pain in rt facet area?? MRI Findings: The conus medullaris terminates at L1 on sagittal T2 weighted images. There is some degreee of desiccation of the discs at L4-5 and L5-S1. Minimal central disc bulging is noted at L5-S1. Impression: Degenerative changes of the distal three lumbar intervertebral discs. Minimal disc bulging centrally at L5-S1. Neuro Dr. advised not a good canidate for surgery - Have had very little sciattica pain down legs.....it s always been confined to lumbar and radiating into hips - pain will swap sides from day to day - Have had epidual twice 2/3 yrs apart with very little if any effects - have been trying McKensie Extension excersies for last 6/8 weeks with very little effect - pain even increases in the prone extension excerise position ? -
