Chronic Constipation, Unable To Pass Blocked Stools. Tried Laxopeg, Laxatives. Cure?

Hi, my 21 months old daughter is suffering from chronic constipation . We have been trying out everything right from home remedies to laxatives but cannot find a proper cure. As of now it is 12:34 AM and my daughter is crying continuously as she is not able to pass a blocked stool . Is there something we can do as there are no doctors available in the vicinity. I have given her 5 ml Laxopeg about 20 mins ago. Please advise.

Hello dear,

Laxopeg being a laxative, will provide temporary relief from constipation.
Though symptomatic relief can be obtained by intake of Laxatives, their regular use is not advised.
And as long as the underlying cause is not treated, symptoms will keep recurring.

The causes of constipation can be:
1. Any congenital pathology/ sub acute obstruction in the Gastrointestinal tract
2. Irritable bowel syndrome- constipation predominant type.
3. Functional cause- due to decreased gastric motility
4. Less fluid intake
5. Hormonal & Metabolic causes, etc.

So, kindly consult a Gastroenterologist & get a proper physical examination done.
Investigations like complete blood count, Ultrasound scan of abdomen, Colonoscopy & contrast studies will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for your symptoms.

There is no need to worry, your daughter will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status.

Wishing her a good health.
Take care.
