Child With Tightness, Squeezing In Throat. No Relief With Dpi Pen Jr. What Could Be The Cause?

My daughter is complaining of tightness in her throat and is really scared about this. I gave her an dpi pen jr yesterday which she said helped a lot. Now she is complaining again. Says its like someone is squeezing her throat. She has a history of tree nut allergies but did not eat any offending foods. Please help. What could cause this?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Your daughter is suffering from some allergy and could also be having some superadded throat infection. She shoud be given anti allergens like cetrizine or allegra, a monteleukast and if there is breathing difficulty a course of oral or inhaled steroids depending on the intensity of her symptoms. If required a courswe of antibiotics can also be given. You may consult a ENT specialist or a pulmonologist who will advicse you correctly.

Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Sujoy Khan's  Response
Hello,
Although the adrenaline helped with the severe symptoms, she is either having swelling of the throat or has other allergies with concomitant asthma.
She needs complement C3 C4 levels checked to ensure there is no C1-inhibitor deficiency (although quite rare but important to exclude), skin tests to ensure she does not have other allergies that are causing these attacks. Hidden allergens in foods such as seeds (sesame) can be checked at the same time.
A trial of bronchodilators (with steroids) and/or montelukast for 3 months may also be necessary.
Continuous use of antihistamines would also help with throat swelling if she has allergen-induced or idiopathic angioedema.
