Child With Painful Lump In The Vagina. What Is It?

Hi. I have a medium-sized lump just past my vagina, in-between it and my anus on the right side. It hurts when i touch it, when i sit, when i walk.. basically all the time. it is red and hard under the skin. I am only 13 and i am a virgin, so it can't be Herpes or anything, can it? I haven't talked to anybody about it because I have been too embarrassed, which includes my doctor, parents etc. Please help, I am scared and in pain. Thank You

Pediatrician 's  Response
Dear user,

This might be an innocent bacterial infection. Did you, by any chance, try to put anything inside, such as a tampon, to soak your menstrual bleed? That can instigate infection inside the vagina. There is no need to be embarrassed ... you can go to a ladies' doctor with your girl-friend and get yourself examined. If the doctor judges you to be mentally competent and mature, she may not insist on informing your parents ... if the problem is a simple one and easily resolved.
