Your son has been diagnosed with Hyper Reactive Airway Disease
There are 2 group of medications to treat wheeze.
- One used to abort the attack (Asthalin
) - Other to prevent frequent attacks (Montair, Steroid Inhalers)
Usually either Montair or Steroid Inhalers are started.
You need not be worried much about steroid inhalers- it has low dose steroids
. And steroids help by reducing the inflammation seen in airways of wheezers.
Usually its given for 3 to 6 months and then adjusted according to response.
Given for short duration of 3 to 6 months- steroid inhalers are safe.
You may put him on regular Montair and see how he responds. The frequency of the cold
episodes should come down. You may give it for a minimum of 4 weeks to see the response. If he responds well, you may continue with that for atleast 3 months.
If there is no response, the next step is to start steroid inhalers.
Hope my answer helps you.
Wish your son good health.
