Pediatrician 's  Response

Your son has been diagnosed with Hyper Reactive Airway Disease (wheeze).
There are 2 group of medications to treat wheeze.
- One used to abort the attack (Asthalin) - Other to prevent frequent attacks (Montair, Steroid Inhalers)

Usually either Montair or Steroid Inhalers are started.
You need not be worried much about steroid inhalers- it has low dose steroids. And steroids help by reducing the inflammation seen in airways of wheezers.
Usually its given for 3 to 6 months and then adjusted according to response.
Given for short duration of 3 to 6 months- steroid inhalers are safe.

You may put him on regular Montair and see how he responds. The frequency of the cold, cough episodes should come down. You may give it for a minimum of 4 weeks to see the response. If he responds well, you may continue with that for atleast 3 months.

If there is no response, the next step is to start steroid inhalers.

Hope my answer helps you.
Wish your son good health.
