Child Taken Combiflam For Cold, Fever, Ear Pain, Cough. Should Child Be Given Antibiotics?

my kid is 9 months old, he is suferning from cold and fever past 2 days, paediatrician gave combiflam suspension syrup (ibuprofen and paracetamol suspension ) for fever and cold, his region behind ears are having pain due to cough, my baby was crying too much hence he also gave Triclofos Oral solution BP - Pedicloryl.
today we revisted our doctor he gave
1) Clamp-Kid FORTE suspension (Amoxycillin and potassium Clavunate Oral Suspension IP (Twin Pack))
2) Enterogermina (Bacillus clausii spores suspension)
Doctor said the first medicine is an anitbiotic, which may cause dysentry to my kid, hence he gave second medicine for the same,
Is it advisable to give antibiotic for such small baby ? and i am scared that dysentry due to that antibiotic may worsen my kid's situation...

Thanks for your query

i can feel your concerns

yes,you can give antibiotics to kids of this age

mostly cough and fever are viral, but kids ususually accquire superimposed bacterial infection

secondly, high grade fever can cause fits in this age called as febrile fits

i advise you to complete course of antibiotic

second medicine is probiotic .

i advise you to continue calpol and ibuprufen alternatively for fever

you can give these medicines 6 hourly

tapid water sponging is also helpful

give him green tea and honey

steam inhalation also improve cough

avoid cold and soft drinks

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child seems having upper respiratory tract infection with probable ear infection.

As the child is not responding to antipyretic, your doctor started antibiotic to treat the infection.

Clamp-kid contains amoxicillin with clavulanic acid and it can be safely given to the children around this age.

It causes loose stools which can be treated by giving oral probiotic such as Enterogermina.

Nothing to worry and continue the medication as advised by the pediatrician and be in follow up till the symptoms subside.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
