Child Suffering From Severe Diarrhea, Unable To Control. Can We Feed Cerelac And Breast Milk?

My 7 months old daughter is having diarrea from 1 week and she is admitted to hospital from 4 days.; but loose motion are not coming in control. She has 10-12 every day. Doctor asked us to continue feeding cerelac and breast milk but we received advice to stop breast milk and cerelac as it contains milk powder by many parents and old ladies. Please suggest an answer what we should feed her?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

There is a misconception among people to stop milk and its products during diarrhoea. It should be stopped only if the child is allergic to milk.

Diarrhoea can be due to a number of reasons. I suggest you discuss with the treating doctor who must have investigated your daughter and follow the advice instead of listening to lay advice.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.

Regards,

RKK
