We live in a remote indigenous community my 3 year old son came down sick quickly this afternoon he has a temperature of 39.1 on his head 38.9 under his arm and a resting heart rate of 140 when he is sleeping now. He has a cough and is complaining of a sore head. He never complains about anything. Generally really healthy. We ve never seen him like this should we be worried?

Dear customer,

It seems that he is suffering from upper respiratory tract infection causing cough, fever, sore throat and such symptoms in him.

It may be caused by bacterial or viral infection. The bacterial infection are treated with suitable antibiotics like augmentin, ofloxacin, septran, along with antipretics to decrease the temperature. The commonly used antipyretics are crocin, motrin, advil, brufen etc.The honey can also be used in reducing cough.

The decongestants such as pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) Actifed oral, phenylephrine (Neo-synephrine nasal) can be used to reduce nasal congestion .

You should imeediately consult the doctor nearby you and start the treatment as the uncontrolled fever may cause febrile seizures to happen in some children.

Thank you!
