Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi - my son when he was aged about 3 years started shuttering a little. We thought is just a phase and it improved by itself as he was shuttering on vowels....but now after about 6 months he has started again but on randowm words. Sometimes he says those words perfectly and sometimes just gets stuck. One of the common links we see during that time when he initially started this behaviour and now is that his nose was usually blocked and at the same time doctor has advised that he has enlarged adenoids. Can adenoids be a reason for this problem ? We are taking homepathic medicine for adenoids - should we consult a speech therapist now itself or wait for a month or so till the medicine is underway ?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Stuttering is common in early years of speech development. But I suggest you not to give more attention towards this issue as it will aggravate the problem. Try to ignore it and ask the child to breath deeply and to concentrate on the specific words. You can help him in dividing the complex words into smaller one for easy pronunciation. If stuttering persists beyond 6 months consult the doctor for further evaluation. Regards. Hope I have answered your query.
