Child Is 17 Months, Has Not Started To Walk Yet. But All Her Other Activities Are Good. Suggestions?

My grandaughter is 17 mo. and doesn't yet walk on her own. She's been on target with all her other developments. She stands and cruises fine, in fact crawl like a jet. She'll even climb stairs and knows nows how to get up and down a chair. She out-toes and curls her toes. when walking with assistance. She'll push forward with an object but will not attempt walking on her own. Her doctor wants to wait till shes 18 mo. before doing any test. What do you think?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Dear
Welcome to the board Of Health care magic,
By your history it appears that every thing is fine with your baby.
In my opinion nothing special is required to investigate that child, except some efforts are required to overcome the fear of standing and inculcating some confidence on him.
We can try some tricycle. He can be made simply to take support of the cycle and walk along with the support (cycle).
And we can also by simply holding his finger can make him to walk and give him some confidence to walk self.
By this practice we can expect him to start walking soon.
Hope your query is answered
Thanks

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Development is widely variable and even normal development has a range. So you need not worry regarding that. But monitoring of development is important.

If there is further delay in walking please get yourself evaluated by a doctor.

When did your baby achieve other developmental milestones like head holding, sitting without support etc.

Were there any problems like not crying immediately after birth?
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
