Child Hit Face Then Forehead While Falling. Crying In Between His Sleep. Should I Be Concerned?

I have a 21 month old who fell face first and banged his forehead pretty hard around 8:00pm. He was not acting himself but was playing a little. Now he just fell asleep at 10:00pm and at 11:30 he was still asleep but was crying like he does when he gets hurt. And then after a few minutes he woke up and he was crying harder for about 10 more minutes and then went right back to sleep. Which is not like him and I am unsure what to do. I am concerned what should I do???

Hello
Thank you for placing your query on Health Care Magic
The danger signs following any head injury are loss of consciousness, bleeding from ear or nose and fits. Since your child did not have any of these signs it is unlikely to be any thing serious. You need to relax. However he may be having pain. It would be good idea to get an X-Ray of the skull. But even if he has a fracture there, you need not worry and nothing needs to be done for it. Give some analgesic and some warm compresses over the site of injury.
Hope that helps
God bless you

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

The child might be having pain due to the impact for which he is crying.

Is there any bump at the site of impact?

Observe closely the child for vomitings, abnormal behavior, seizures, altered sensorium, bleeding from nose or ear, or decreased limb movements.

For pain, you can give Tylenol in prescribed dose.

If you find any abnormal symptom or sign, consult the emergency immediately.

Consult the pediatrician for physical examination to look for any abnormal signs of head injury.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
