Child Having Swollen Lymph Node Behind Ear, Face Swollen. Possible Cause?

DD (age 5 next week) has swollen, tender lymph node behind ear and that side of the face is a little swollen too. This has happened twice in 3 months, same side of the face. First time with fever over 10 days, eventually 2 doses of antibiotic took care of it. No clear explanation as to what caused it. This time (today is the 2nd day) no fever so far. She is still active and in good mood. What can be the possible cause?

Hello
Welcome in H.C.M. for Consultation.
I have gone through your query regarding swollen face on one side ,and on the same side enlarge and tender lymph behind the ear. As you said this happen twice in last three months.
Considering all aspects of your complaints it appears that swelling on face and enlarged lymph node are involve in same pathology. Depending on the structures on face possibilities of swelling is as under-
(1) Recurrent furunculosis or sebaceous cyst.
(2) Parotid lump ( mumps)
(3) Lump from ramus of mandible.
(4) growth of maxilla.
To confirm this I will advice you following basic investigations-
(1) Ultrasonography of lump.
(2) C.T.scan of paranasal sinuses.
(3) X-Ray Mandible OPG.
(4) FNAC from lymph node.
(5) Blood- CBC, ESR, blood sugar- F & P.P.,
Thorough examination and clinical co- relation of inferences of investigations will guide us to make proper diagnosis which can be plan for treatment.

With Regards.
