Child Having Strep Throat, Cough. Vomitted Brownish Dark Green Color Matter. Food Or Something Unrelated?

My daughter is 21 months old. She has had strep throat the past week and has been very congested. She has a really horrible cough and last night she threw up in her sleep and it was strange brownish dark green color. All she had to eat that night for dinner was some grilled chicken and cucumbers and lettuce and some motts for tots fruit punch juice. And for desert she has 3-4 halves of mini Oreos they are very small and they were the halves without the cream. My wife and I were concerned and we aren t sure if its from her cough or something unrelated?

Hi and welcome,
Your child is suffering from streptococcal pharyngitis. it is a bacterial infection leading to inflammation of mucous membrane of the throat and the tonsillar crpts.
It often shows symptoms of cough , fever , nasal drip , pain and swelling in the throat , difficulty in swallowing and production of phelgm. brownish dark green colored mucus you have mentioned is nothing but phelgm .
Since your daughter is too young i suggest you to consult a pediatrician and get the clinical evaluation and diagnosis done and then go for treatment.
Till then you can give her soft food , avoid sour and spicy food, avoid citrus juices and cold water , give her distilled or boiled drinking water instead.
Mouth gargling with lukewarm saline water gives soothing effect to the throat.
take care.
