Child Having Red Colour Shapeless Spreads In Tongue. Applied Candid Tongue Paste. No Relief And Unable To Speak. Advise?

Sir, To my 2 year old son: He have red color (like geographic map) shapeless spreads in his tongue. It presents continuously since 8 months. We have applied Candid Tongue thrush paint/Jell and other prescribed oilmen as per Doctor's prescription.
But it is not yet cured. Due to this he is not taking any food other than sweetly taste. In his 2 years he is only 10kg of body weight. He is not talking also (other than Amma, Appa, Thatha, Mama). Is it due to the tongue problem. Because other child in same age are speaking several sentences. Please help us in this.

Hello,

Welcome to health care magic forum.

Do the red Discoloration on tongue was present by birth or is that occurred after few months of birth.

Such discoloration can occur either by birth or due to nutritional deficiencies.

I would suggest you to provide your child nutritious rich diet.

Syrup containing iron, folic acid, vitamin b complex can be given to your child.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Please do visit a GP if symptoms persists.

Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

Your child requires complete evaluation for that delayed speech. You should not neglect that.

A 2 year old should be speaking in sentences. Normally problems in the brain or hearing are causes of speech delay. The description you are giving about his tongue is suggestive of geographic tongue and should not be responsible for speech delay. If a confirmation of geographic tongue is made by physical examination then no treatment needs to be given for that marks on the tongue.

Hearing evaluation is required for your kid after complete examination to rule out hearing problem as a cause of delayed speech.

what about his other aspects of development like walking, social interactions etc?
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
