Child Having Cold, Diarrhea, Vomiting. Not Taking Any Fluids. Is It Norovirus?

Hi, my 2.5 year old boy had a cold yesterday but today has had diarreah 4 or 5 times and has vomitted once. I suspect its the norovirus .. he doesn t feel like drinking but I will ofcourse keep trying him. Any more advice? I have even made some watery jelly and have put salt in it, incase I need to rely on desperate measures to get him to get some fluid intake. Any advice would be great.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child is having gastroenteritis mostly due to a virus.

And the mainstay of treatment is to maintain hydration by giving sips of oral rehydration fluids like Pedialyte, coconut water, and lemon water.

Monitoring of hydration and preventing dehydration are the important aspects of diarrhea management.

You can give Pedialyte even in 2 to 3 sips , wait for some time and give sips like that.

You can give curd and butter milk.

And consult the Pediatrician for the assessment and for the prescription of medication and probiotic.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
