Hi, my two yr old has had acid reflux since birth. He was on Prevacid for a long time- and recently off of it due to a long bout of diarrhea we connected with the prolonged use of the Prevacid. We are currently only using children's tums with a bad flare but he has vomiting spells at min one night a week. We watch what he eats, but he's a super picky eater as it is. Recently, we have noticed these black pepper like specs in his dirty diapers. It sticks to his skin terribly and those diapers tend to smell rather putrid. We do have an appointment with a GI doctor but not until the end of the month. Are these black specs blood from reflux damage? Is it bile particles? I surely hope not. I read that this can happen when digesting bananas?! He does seem to like bananas but he's been eating them for a long time several times a week and these specs are new. I'm confused. Any idea? Is it serious? He's lost about 2-3lbs since being off the Prevacid but we want to determine the cause of reflux before putting him back on meds.
