Child Have Fluid Coming From Ear Along With Pain And Tiredness. Could It Be A Ear Infection?

Hi, my 5 year old boy has some fluid coming out from his ear this morning and he was also complaining about the pain in his ear. After I picked him up from school today, he seemed to be so tired and the energy level was low, but he didn't really have any fever. Is there anything needs to be concerned? Can this be ear infection and can ear infection actually make him tired?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Ear pain and fluid discharge may be due to ear infection.

Tympanic membrane (ear drum) of that particular ear has to be examined to look for any perforation or hole in it.

Ear infection will cause tiredness and malaise in the initial stage of onset of fever due to inflammatory response.

Prevent water entering ears during giving bath.

If there is ear infection, antibiotics are required to treat the infection.

Therefore consult the doctor for physical examination and for treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Yes it could be because of infection. A local examination will help to identify the exact cause.

It could be because of middle ear infection or because of a pustule in the external ear.

Antibiotics may have to be given after prescription from your doctor.

Does he have any cold etc?

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Yes - it is ear infection, unless proved otherwise.
Any infection can make the child tired

It is generally middle ear infection and there is likely to be perforation of the ear drum...
The child must be taken to the ENT specialist...
A good antibiotic is necessary / sometimes, a tube is put in to facilitate drainage...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
