Child Have A Lump That Seems To Be Attached To Rib Cage. All Tests Done, Normal. What Can This Be?

Hi my son is only 9 and has a lump that seems to be attached to his lower left rib cage. He has had an ultrasound, x-ray, and blood work done that has all turned out normal. The lump is maybe 2 inches and is hard, it doesn't move at all. I am hoping for any suggestions that I can have his doctor check out for us, because our doctor seems to be at a loss as to what it could be.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. FORUM.
The age of child is just nine years so don't worry.
Most probable causes are as,
Chondroma , ( tumor over rib hard to touch and immovable),
fibrous dysplasia ,
lipoid granulomas,
Neurofibroma,
ganglioneuroma,
All above mentioned tumors are benign , so don't worry.

Rarest cause may be Chondrosarcoma.

Consult a surgeon/orthopaedician and get his opinion as physical examination is very important in this case.
Hope I have answered your question.
If further any question I will help.
Good luck.
Dr. HET.
