Child Has Stomach Cramps, Increased Urge To Urinate. Explain Condition

My son, Dylan aged nineteen has led relatively healthy lifestyle. He plays football regularly and eats a well balanced diet. Six months ago, Dylan was admitted to hospital due to an extremely bad viral infection. Since he was released from hospital, Dylan is always thirsty and drinks around eight liters of water each day. He also complains of stomach cramps and an increase need to urinate. Dylan stayed a night at a friend’s house before a football match. This friend’s dad has a blood sensor kit and both Dylan and his friend tested their levels before dinner. Dylan’s reading was 38 mmol/L. Could you please diagnose my son’s condition and explain why he is suffering like so. Could you also tell me the treatment or action that should be taken.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Increase thirst, increased appetite and increased urination are suggestive of diabetes.

High blood sugar can have long term impact on the nervous system, eyes and kidneys.

Please contact your doctor for further investigations including a complete sugar profile, fasting and post prandial etc

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
