Child Has Spots, Itchy, Rough To The Touch. Red Bugs?

Our 11 year old son had some spots come up about a week ago....we thought it might be red bugs or chiggers .....(since we were at a lake - although he didn t go into the woods).....it has not only lingered....but it seems the spots are increasing in number....they itched in the beginning...but now, they feel rough / scabby to touch & still itch, but not all of the time. He s not eaten anything different .....no different bath soaps, detergents, etc. He s not running a temp or having any other symptoms..... Could this be red bugs or chiggers ?.....(I always thought they would get around your waist line &/or where your undies are. Thank you very much!

Hello there,

Kindly mention the location of the skin marks or lesions.

If the skin lesions are in the area of the lower legs, or if that is where the problem started, it is likely that he got bitten by bugs.

Also some children are sensitive to certain forms of plants like congress grass and any contact with the same can result in blisters in the area of the skin involved.

If they are increasing in number, I suggest you show him to a skin specialist.

Wishing your child a speedy recovery.

Take care.
