Child Has Sore Throat, Headache, Nausea, Fever, Rash On Arms And Legs. What Can This Be?

My 13 yr old daughter has been sick for 8 days... sore throat , headache , occasional nausea , fever (100-101.5 avg). sore in her mouth and throat, restlessness, fatigue . Now she developed a strange rash on ONLY her arms & legs. These spots start as a small red mark-like a bug bite-but then progress to a quarter-size red, bumpy itchy/burning spots that come and go. What can this be?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
This is looking like viral exanthematous fever as there is rash associated with fever, sore throat and mouth and fatigue.
But other conditions with rash like enteric fever and Henoch Schonlein Purpura to be ruled out as these need specific management.
So consult your Pediatrician for evaluation and management.
Hope i have answered your query.

Pediatrician, Cardiology Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain's  Response
Hello
Sore throat with fever and rashes may be due to scarlet fever or infectious mononucleosis or some other viral illness.
I would suggest you to give her paracetamol for fever and some antibiotics after consulting your physician. Also get a throat swab test, ASO titer and complete blood count including platelet count done to find the cause of the condition. Platelet count will give the clue whether these rashes are due to decreased platelet count. Give her plenty of fluid and also advise her warm saline gargle 2-3 times a day.
Regards
