Child Has Normal A1c, High Sugar Level, No Ketones Or Sugar In Urine. Suggestions?

My doctor has a normal A1c of 5.5 yet her sugar spikes to over 300 and 400 at least one time a week. She doesn t show ketones or sugar in her urine but I believe that is because it only stays that high for a few hours not days....she is 9 years old and 4 foot 9 inches tall and weighs on 58 pounds having lost 3 pounds in the last two weeks.

Hi,
Thank you for your query.
There are some questions for you.
The child must be on insulin i suppose.I need to know the amount ,time, type of insulin delivered to your child.Hba1c indicates good glycemic control over the last 3months..Her renal threshold should be high thats why she is nor showing ketones or sugar in urine.Kindly enquire if your child is taking extra calories without your knowledge.
Consult your diabetologist if this problem persistes.Hope this answers your query. If you have any other queries kindly direct them to me.Wishing your child a speedy recovery.Have a nice day.
