Child Has Lumps On Side Of Neck. Ultrasound Shows Lymph Node. Cancer?

hello there, my 6 year old son has large lumps on the left and right sides of his neck, starting from the base of the ears moving downwads. he has had a blood test which had no cancer markers and an x ray for which we have had no further info on. he has had an ultrasound scan where they told us that one side had 1 lynph node showing but the other side(right) had a row of nodes. we have'nt heard anything back from the hospital. and im beside myself with worry. does the presence of a few nodes mean that its cancer. please help. thank you for your time..........

Hi

Lymph nodes in the neck can get enlarged due to various reasons like infection, inflammation, cancers etc..... the most common being infection.

The lymph node being cancerous or not depends on
the size, consistency of the nodes and the number of groups involved along with presence of other symptoms and signs such as fever, weight loss, anemia, enlargement of abdominal organs like liver, spleen etc.

After looking into these signs and symptoms, we go for blood investigations, Mantoux test, X ray, Lymph node aspiration/ biopsy (if needed ) to arrive at a diagnosis.

So it`s better that you speak to your doctor again and discuss with him regarding the suspected diagnosis and about the results of the investigations done.

Before jumping into conclusions and getting worried, please speak to your doctor.

Wish your son good health.
