Upto 10 mm width of atria of lateral ventricles are accepted as normal, when taken at level of choroid plexus. More than 10 mm may mean mild enlargement of the ventricles. Usually the fluid is produced at the choroid plexus and since the ventricles are just adjacent, the fluid collects in these ventricles. So there can be variation in size since from day to day, from machine to machine, from change in position of mother and baby, and from the angle at which the scan was taken. So many other views are taken simultaneously and only if both lateral ventricles are 12 mm or bigger particularly in a female fetus, does the risk of a problem arise. A size more than 15 mm is more ominous. Wait for a week and go for a Level 2 scan, preferrably at a specialised centre.
