Child Has Itchy, Red Bumps On Body. What Could This Be?

My 8 year old has an itchy, red small bumps rash all over his whole body..even scalp and hands... He is itching like crazy and I don t know what to do...should I run out to et Benadryl without knowing what this could be? He says he won t be able to sleep tonight bc the itching is so bothersome!! Help!? YYYY@YYYY

Hello and thank you for your question.
You can give him benadryl, this will help cut down the histamine that is affecting the itching of the lesions. It sounds like he has developed chicken-pox, has an allergic reaction to something he ate or has gotten into poison ivy. Best bet is to take him to the ER or to the doctors in the morning for an evaluation and work up.
