Child Has Head Injury, Pain When Touched. Medical Attention Needed?
My 14 month old slipped on a bath Matt and fell striking his temple on the edge of a solid tub. The edge of the tub has a lip about width of a pencil. The point of impact on his temple left a deep indentation about 2 inch long and depth of a pencil. The indentation immediately turned blue and remained that way for about 10 min afterward I could still see where the indentation was and feel it but his temple looked normal. He cried for about 3 minutes and stopped. I was right next to him and saw the whole thing. He threw up later a little once and I watched him closely all night waking him up three times. I touched the wound and it woke him so I know it hurts. He has been a little crabby more than usual and its been a week. He walks fine, sleeps normally and eats as usual. His pupils seem bigger than usual they are larger than mine but I'm not sure if I'm imagining it. I've checked for bruising behind ears there isn't any. I've been on the internet reading all I can and am concerned due to the location of injury. It has a light bruise that finally appeared three days ago. I've put him to bed and on two separate occasions he appeared asleep for about three minutes then he popped up wide awake laughing full of energy. This burst both times lasted around 7 minutes and back to sleep I would put him. His breathing is normal. The impact was on the right side of his head about an inch behind the eye. Why did it turn blue right away the length of the dent was solid blue it faded back to normal color about15 min later. Also shined a flash light in his eyes they dilated appropriately. I read about the silent death which I believe they refer to as a temple blow injury. My husband doesn't believe in western medicine if it's imperative I need to know so he receives medical attention.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Lohit K's Response
Hi, The blue color was due to bleeding/increased circulation of blood at the injured area. Watch out for unconsciousness, Lethargy, Nausea & vomiting, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Weakness on one side of the body. If any of them then visit your doctor for further management. Since he threw up once you can show your doctor once to rule out any problem. Other wise since all activities are normal no need to worry.
