Child Has Flu, Ear Infection. Elder Sibling Was Prescribed Tamiflu For The Same. Can I Start It For Her?
hi my 3 year old girl has flu and ear infection for about a week been on amoxicillin for 5 days but her 5 year old sister has it to but their mother came down with it to on tuesday they went to doctor sunday but doctor gave 5 year old tamiflu but not 3 year old now 5 days later she is running a 103 fever or better at night should i start her on tamiflu also or take her back to doctor either or both.
Tamiflu is not indicated unless there is high index of suspicion that the child may have swine flu. Even other viral infections could cause high grade fever. It is not sure that your elder daughter had swine flu and also i don't know on what basis she was started on tamiflu.
i addition the dose also differs between both and also use should know the side effects of this drugs when used inappropriately.
My advice is to see a pediatrician first and if he has high index of suspicion than go with his prescription, otherwise tamiflu is not advised as most other viral illness subside by symptomatic treatment .
tamiflue is used in virals and i think not to start with medicines as they are used in specific indications and doctor must reconfirm the diagnosis before starting medicines of these types as the age is less so be little careful to give medicines without doctor consultation
